Each player receives a card from a shuffled deck. The player who has the highest-valued card becomes the initial dealer. The initial dealer then shuffles the deck and cuts it. The next player clockwise from the initial dealer advances to the next step.
When betting, players can fold, raise, or check. A player can check without betting if they do not wish to remain in the game. A player may also raise a bet raised by another player, a practice called sandbagging. This is a legal practice, unless it is prohibited by the game’s rules.
The number of players in Poker varies, but six to eight players are considered optimal. Each player makes a bet in the beginning, which determines the total amount of chips in the pot. The player with the highest-value hand wins the pot.
